AN EDO TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1800)

The four-lobed iron plate (mokko) is carved with an overall openwork (sukashi) pattern of interlocking rings (shippo). The edge has some rust spots--height 7.8cm., width 7.2cm., thickness 4.5mm.

This late Edo sukashi-style of tsuba could have been made by any of the Edo area schools.
