The oval brass plate is carved in an openwork design in the shape of a water dragon. The plate is polished; only the dragon's mane is carved with fine parallel lines--height 7.3cm., width 6.3cm., thickness 5.5mm.

This rather common tsuba design is usually incorrectly attributed to Ito Toshimasa or the Egawa school. The artist lived in Kofu, a suburb of Edo, as indicated by his signature. He probably worked for a daimyo who lived outside the center of Edo.
