The ken is a rare work of the Nambokucho period, although it is not known to which branch of the Osafune school this smith belongs; several smiths of the same name are recorded, but no other blades by this particular smith are known to exist.

The hamon is unusual for a Bizen because of with the peculiar way in which the nie is arranged; without the signature, one would assign the piece to the Rai School. The jigane and the way in which the ashi branch off do suggest a Bizen style. The blade might be considered a deki-gawari or freak blade because of the combination of styles.
