AN ECHIZEN SHIMOSAKA KO-WAKIZASHI
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1600), ATTRIBUTED TO SADAKUNI
Configuration (sugata): of flat, wedge section (hira-zukuri) with tri-bevelled back (mitsu-mune); length (nagasa): 1 shaku, 1 sun, 3 bu (34.3cm.); curvature (sori): very shallow of 0.4cm.; carving (horimono): inside (ura): very wide kaku-dome bo-hi; outside (omote): the same and carved with a dragon and tiger (kudare-ryu tora).
Forging pattern (jihada): tightly compacted burl (ko-mokume).
Tempering pattern (hamon): shallow undulating medium suguba in ko-nie and with a very bright ha-buchi.
Point (boshi): small rounded (ko-maru).
Tang (nakago). Shape (keitai): wide, tapering, ubu and with a dry, brown patina; end (nakagojiri): rounded (kuri-jiri); holes (mekugi-ana): two; signature (Mei): unsigned (mumei).
Shirasaya with attestation by Homma Junji.
Silk storage bag.
Accompanied by a futsu kicho token certificate, no number, Showa 35 (1960); and a koshu tokubetsu kicho token certificate, no. 13436, Showa 52 (1977), issued by the N.B.T.H.K.
