ALLINGHAM, WILLIAM. Poems. Boston: Ticknor and Fields 1861. 12mo, original blue cloth, stamped in gilt and blind, spine gilt-lettered, g.e., light wear at ends of spine and rear joint, rubbed, small stain at upper margin of most leaves, a leaf removed by Allingham between title-leaf and first Contents leaf, cloth slipcase. First American Edition, containing the poems in The Music Master (London 1855) with 20 other poems not published in England until 1865, ALLINGHAM'S COPY WITH HIS EXTENSIVE AND IMPORTANT REVISIONS in ink (mainly) and pencil for a later edition. Inscribed by Allington on verso of half-title: "(Revised Copy)/WA./(June 1862)/Sept. 1864)"; with notations by him regarding revisions on this page and three fly-leaves; with revisions by him on the title-page and other preliminary leaves; and with revisions by the poet on 114 of the book's 262 text pages. These textual emendations range from spelling and punctuation alterations through title changes, revisions of single words, phrases, and lines of verse, the scoring through of several pages, to a 10-line revision (on p. 275) and the pasting-in of 20 lines of holograph verse (on a 12mo piece of paper) to cover the printed text on p. 269.
