MUROMACHI PERIOD (15TH CENTURY), INSCRIBED YOSHIIE SAKU


Configuration (sugata): with longitudinal ridge line (shinogi-zukuri), shallow peaked back (iori-mune) and small medium point (chu-kissaki); length (nagasa): 2 shaku, 3 sun, 4.8 bu (71.1 cm.); curvature (sori): torii-zori of 1.7 cm.; decrease in width of blade (fumbari): 1.1 cm.; carving (horimono): maru-dome bo-hi (atobori) extending into the tang.
Forging pattern (jihada): a mixture of wood and burl grains (mokume masame).
Tempering pattern (hamon): small irregular patterns (komidare) in a suguba configuration, executed in ko-nie; the omote midsection displaying extensive nie activity.
Point (boshi): brushed tip (hakikake).
Tang (nakago) shape (keitai): shortened (suriage) approximately 15 cm.; file marks (yasurime): deeply sloping (o-sujikai); end (nakagojiri): squared (kiri-jiri); holes (mekugi-ana): three; signature (mei), tachi-mei: inscribed Yoshiie saku. [Condition OK.]
