The rectangular writing box with canted corners decorated on the cover in hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, roiro, inlaid ivory, horn, aogai and metal with numerous lacquer details with randomly placed tsuba, each differently patterned, reserved on a ground of black lacquer heightened with gold fretwork, the underside of the lid decorated with a scene of a samurai and attendant crossing a bridge under pines and willows, the figures inlaid partially or completely in ivory, the bridge kinji and the willows and stream in gold hiramaki-e against a black ground dusted with nashiji, the well of the box matching this ground and the sides of the lower section matching the design of the lid- 9 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 1 7/8 in. (24.2 x 21.6 x 4.8 cm.), chips and cracks, losses and rubbing
