A SMALL LACQUER BOX AND COVER
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY)

The small, rectangular box with slightly domed lid decorated in takamaki-e with two-colored gold birds flying amongst bamboo trees and chrysanthemums on a kinji ground, one short side of the lower section worked with a continuation of the bamboo trunks and leaves and the sides also kinji dusted with kimpun, the interior and base of the box nashiji, silver mounts- 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 x 1 1/2 in. (10.5 x 8.3 x 3.7 cm.), minute surface scratches
