Born in Osaka, Matsumoto Tomitaro won the 12th Nitten exhibition award in 1956 with his painting entitled "Mountain". In 1965 he founded a group with ten other artists called the "Modern Art Association", with whom he exhibited regularly. Living in France for five years, Matsumoto has won two awards at the French International Exhibition. He has had 33 solo exhibitions at the Takashimaya department stores in Osaka and in Tokyo.
