Lot Essay
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Nakamura Munehiro first hoped to become a doctor, but as both his father and grandfather were artists, he began painting in oils while an adolescent. By the time he reached high school he had decided to become an artist. In 1971 he became the pupil of Higashiyama Kaii, a well-known nihonga painter, and in 1973 graduated from Keio Gijuku Daigaku in Tokyo. His first solo exhibition was in 1978 at the Ginza Murakoshi Gallery, followed by another at the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi department store and then at the Ikebukuro Seibu department store. He won an award for his work in the 11th Shin-nitten Exhibition and has shown his work at the Yamatane Museum and at the Tokyo Central Art Museum.
