Brandt photographed for the picture magazine The Picture Post from the summer of 1938 until May, 1951. This image, one of his best known photographs, was used to illustrate an article entitled "The Perfect Parlourmaid" which ran in the July 29, 1938 issue (pp. 43-47).

The inscription reads Christmas Greetings from Bill Brandt.
