See Johanna Lessman, Italianische Majolika, Katalog de Sammlung, Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum, Braunschweig, 1979, no. 431 for a similarly painted dish depicting a scene from the Book of Genesis identified on the underside which is attributed to Urbino, circa 1570; also no. 922 for a dish attributed to Lyon or Nevers circa 1600 which displays similar design characteristics, including that of the inscription on the reverse. Both this dish and the present example are based on a series of engravings by Bernard Solomon used to illustrated the Quadrins Historiques de la Bible published in 1553 by Jean de Tournes.
