AN EMBROIDERED LINEN HAND TOWEL
SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, DATED 1822

The plain woven rectangular form worked in various cross-stitched designs including at the center of the top two pink and green birds flanking the year "1822" above two pink and green eight-pointed stars flanking two crowns, two stars and an elaborate stylized central tulip embellished with the initials "HB" in green, and the initials "EED" in pink over the name "Barbara Hollinger", the fringed base decorated with a central stylized pink and green tulip in urn flanked by two smaller tulips and a tri-flowered form emanating from an angled pink and green heart, all on a decorated register of five pink, blue and white bands--51½ x 17 in.
