A WOOL-ON-LINEN EMBROIDERED HAND TOWEL
SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, CIRCA 1830-1850

The vertical plain woven cloth with bound edges worked in several cross-stitched registers, the top with the date in rectangular sawtoothed surround flanked by red, yellow and blue stars above a register of red, white, yellow and blue roosters, birds and stags over the red and yellow name "Maria. Bruchacher" above a horizontal register of three red, yellow and blue stylized tulips flanked above and below by a register of yellow, red and blue scrolling foliate vines over three stylized red, yellow and blue flowers with drawn panel attached depicting two birds and two stags flanking a stylized tulip headed by the intials "MB" enclosed by a sawtooth checker border--54 x 14in.
