Painted in ochre, blue, green and manganese with a grotesque mask supporting a basket of fruit and centering scrolls, within a border of stiff leaf tips, the underside inscribed in red with Sackler number 78.2.22 (glaze flaws, rim chips)--6¾in. (17.2cm.) square

The present tile is a copy after those made in Sienna circa 15?? for the floor of the ????

Sold with thermoluminescence certificate 381e23 dated December 1982 from the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art, Oxford University, stating that the sample tested was last fired less than 150 years ago (1832-1982).
