CASTELLI, 18TH CENTURY, ATTRIBUTED CARLO ANTONIO GRUE

Painted on a white ground in shades of yellow, blue, green, ochre with The Madonna Presenting Saint Peter with the Keys to the Church, within a manganese and yellow line border, the underside inscribed in red with Sackler number 79.6.27b (minor rim chips, sides shaved slightly to better fit a frame, test drill holes to reverse)--9 x 12 5/8in. (22.8 x 32cm.)

Sold with thermoluminescence certificate 381u93 dated May 1986 from the Research Laboratory for Archaeology and the History of Art, Oxford University, stating that the sample tested was last fired between 150 and 250 years ago (1736-1836).
