The offered lot is confidently attributable attributed to the ébéniste Jacques Dubois' oeuvre as it is virtually identical to a commode stamped Dubois from the Goldschmidt-Rothschild collection, sold Christie's London, 12 April 1973, lot 84, previously sold in Berlin, 23 and 25 March 1931, lot 127 and illustrated in P.Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIème Siècle, 1989, p.268, pl.B.

A pair of commodes veneered in marquetry stamped Dubois and fitted with identical ormolu mounts was sold, collection of Marquis de Ségur, Ader, Paris, 11 March 1975, lot 160. A commode with identical chutes stamped Dubois from the Cartier collection was sold, Sotheby's Monaco, 24 November 1979, lot 164.

The inventory taken of Jacques Dubois' stock upon his death in 1763 lists a significant amount of ormolu mounts most probably reserved exclusively for certain models of commodes.
