A SONG HUA INKSTONE
QIANLONG INCISED FOUR-CHARACTER SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD
Of rounded rectangular form, with a well at one end below a section of the flattened rim lightly carved with comma scrolls, the faintly striated yellowish-green stone with a smooth matte surface, the reverse carved with an eight-character inscription reading yi jing wei yong shi yi yong nian, which may be roughly translated as "using this brings tranquility which endures eternally", with incised Qianlong seal mark; together with a zitan and lacquer box, Qianlong, the box carved at the edges with archaistic scrolls and bats, and with inset gilt-decorated black lacquer landscape and floral panels, losses to box--5 5/8in. (14.2cm.) long
