THREE SOAPSTONE CARVINGS
17TH/19TH CENTURY

One a small, well-carved shoushan figure of a seated luohan, holding a tassel in his left hand while supporting the back paw of a lion cub in his right hand, the borders of his robes inlaid with "jewels", with the characters hui yi incised on the back, neck repaired; one a figure of Shoulao shown standing with a peach held in his left hand, wearing long robes incised with auspicious motifs and showing traces of red and green pigment, small chips; the third a caramel-colored seal of irregular outline well carved in shallow relief with chrysanthemums and prunus branches below three lines of seal characters, the base carved with a seal--2½, 6½ and 3in. (6.3, 16.5 and 7.6cm.) high, one wood stand (3)
