Carved in the round with an octopus grappling with a monkey, fur of the monkey etched and the eyes inlaid in horn or ivory, stained dark, himotoshi formed by the legs of the octopus, signed on a rectangular cartouche on the back of the monkey, painted red inventory number adjacent- 1 7/8 in. (4.7 cm.) high
