A RETICULATED EARTHENWARE VASE
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED SETSUZAN WITH SHIMAZU [SATSUMA] MON
The tapered quadrangular vase pierced on each side with lattice panels, two of medallion shape and two of tapered quadrangular shape containing solid medallions, each of the side panels decorated with flowers or warriors within a narrow band of fretwork, the foot and shoulder further painted with stands of iris, wistaria vines or samurai, all in delicate colored enamels and gilt on a cream crackle glaze ground- 8 1/8 in. (20.3 cm.) high, minute foot chips and adjacent restoration
