AN EARTHENWARE VASE
MEIJI PERIOD (LATE 19TH CENTURY), SIGNED MATSUMOTO HOZAN

The ovoid vase with rolled lip and foot decorated in delicately colored enamels and gilt with two large opposing panels of women and children, one group before a shrine and the other at the seashore, between smaller shaped panels of a landscape and a depiction of Urashima Taro's dream, a turtle in a lacquer box and palace above, bordered by richly gilded brocade patterns- 9 5/8 in. (24.3 cm.) high
