A TECHIGAIJOGE JUMONJI YARI
PROBABLY MOMOYAMA PERIOD (LATE 16TH CENTURY), SIGNED HIROIE SAKU.
Nagasa: 8 sun, 1.5 bu (24.7 cm., including the kerakubi, but excluding the nakago). Jihada: tight itame. Hamon: irregular gonome. Nakago keitai: slender (36.2 cm.) and with a moist, brown patina; mei, Hiroie saku. Shirasaya without tsuka.

Accompanied by a Tokubetsu kicho ninteisho, no. 5504925, dated Showa 55 (1980), issued by the N.B.T.H.K.

Lot Essay

This is a rare type of Jumonji yari, in which the yari no eda (crossbars) are of uneven length and the ends point in opposite directions.
