A PAIR OF SILVER AND BRASS-INLAID KAGA ABUMI
EARLY EDO PERIOD (17TH/EARLY 18TH CENTURY), SIGNED KASHU (NO) JU SHO ICHISABUROUEMON SAKU
The necks are pierced with a 'ladder' of nine oval apertures and a single ana; both sides of the necks, the edges and the leading faces of the fronts are inlaid with silver and brass designs of kikko (tortoise carapace) paving, scrolling foliage and kikkyo (Chinese bellflowers) [some inlay missing]; the undersides are inlaid in silver with an overall design of wind-blown seeds on a stream; red lacquer liners; signed in silver inlay on the leading faces of the necks, Kashu (no) ju Sho Ichisaburouemon saku.
