A CHIPPENDALE CARVED WALNUT TALL-CASE CLOCK

The molded broken scroll pediment terminating in carved rosettes above a pierced and shaped tympanum over an arched glazed door opening to a white-painted dial with Roman and Arabic chapter rings enclosing a sweep seconds hand and calendar day aperture surmounted by a floral reserve, the gilt spandrels painted with strawberries and flowers, inscribed, "John Davis New Holland" flanked by fluted square columns and above a beaded molding and punched dentils over a waisted case with thin pierced arched cupboard door flanked by fluted quarter columns with lamberquin terminus above a pierced dentil molding over a box base with shaped panel flanked by rounded quarter columns with lamberquin terminus, on cyma bracket feet with spur returns (loss to center of one rosette; rear two feet replaced)--95 1/2in. high, 21 5/8in. wide, 12in. deep
