The engraving of The XII Houses of the Heavens is inscribed Published as the Act directs January 4, 1778 and by W. Greatbatch Lane-Delf Staffordshire. See Barker for info on what it means for note
Another example of this documentary. Greatbatch model but with gilt roulette bands in place of the present beading is in the collection of City Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent. Although other manufacturers used the XII Houses of Heaven as a subject for transfer prints, the presence of William Greatbatch's name and the date 1778 serve to irrefutably ascribe this version to Greatbatch, undescoring the late date at which these prints were being used.
