1955 MESSERSCHMITT KR200 "CABIN SCOOTER"

Chassis No. 55660
Red with red interior

Engine: one-cylinder, sachs, 191cc, 10.2bhp at 5,250rpm; Gearbox: four-speed.

The Messerschmitt was built in Regensburg, Germany, by the same company that was famous for its World War II aircraft. Designed by Fritz Fend, an aeronautical engineer, the "Schmitt" was an attempt to create a vehicle that possessed the comfort of an automobile, yet had the economical benefits of a motorcycle. With a top speed of 62mph these little cars give a great sensation of speed!

This Schmitt was donated by the Rev. Walter A. Dealey of Dallas in 1985. It has been repainted but appears to retain its original interior. The chrome brightwork is pitted. The speedometer and a few trim pieces are missing. It was last started in the late 1980s by a member of the museum staff. The Schmitt comes with an extensive file of correspondence. Most importantly, the new owner can become an active member of the Messerschmitt owners club.
