When Jaguar unveiled their stunning E-Type sports car in 1961, it offered utterly sensational looks and performance plus incredible value for money. Using a monocoque chassis centre-section and tubular engine bay subframe, it derived directly from the immortal D-Type sports racing car which had won the Le Mans 24-hour race three consecutive times in 1955-56-57.

The most desirable E-Type is the Series 1 with the attractive covered headlights and triple carburettors. This particular example has matching chassis and engine numbers and was originally painted in the attractive red with black colour scheme. It was delivered new to Mr J. S. Campbell of Chester, New York. In 1965 the car was sold to a Californian enthusiast and it still retains its period black licence plates. At one point the original numbered gearbox was exchanged for a correct non-matching numbered unit. This example has all of its original floors and panels intact and with no rust evident. The current owner purchased this E-Type in 1988 and it had been repainted just prior to then.

Recent restoration work has also been done where necessary. A new and correct system, shock absorbers, and rear brakes have been fitted. The engine was checked and serviced including compression test - which is said to be excellent, and valve adjustment. The cooling system was overhauled and a new black top and black interior have been fitted.

This E-Type is being offered for sale without reserve.
