A PAIR OF GEORGE II SILVER CHAMBER CANDLESTICKS
STERLING STANDARD, LONDON, 1747, MAKER'S MARK OF PAUL DE LAMERIE (HARE, NO. 5)

Each of shaped circular form on plain rim foot, the gadrooned border with pellets at intervals, with central spool-form part-fluted sockets with dentilated rims and flying scroll handles headed by stylized shells, the wells engraved with a lozenge-of-arms within a foliate scroll cartouche, marked under bases and with scratch weights 10 " 18 and 11 = 18--6 3/4in. (17cm.) long

Pairs of chamber candlesticks from Lamerie's workshop are rare: a pair of 1737 was sold by Christie's, London, in 1958, while another was exhibited in Houston in 1956 (Houston, cat. no. 43)
