BOOK OF HOURS. Latin, use of Rome. Hours of the Virgin. [Probably Lyons, c. 1470].
ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM, 125 original leaves, gatherings normally of eight leaves, 48mo (95 x 70mm.), written in brown ink in a gothic textura, single columns of 15 lines, justification (52 x 40mm.), illustrated with FIVE HALF-PAGE MINIATURES by a routine hand, with FULL ILLUMINATED BORDERS, NUMEROUS 3-LINE AND 2-LINE ILLUMINATED INITIALS, rubricated throughout. Miniatures rubbed, many pages stained, many text pages have sixteenth-century notes; a gathering os six leaves added at the beginning, one leaf added to the last original gathering, 3 added gatherings of six, four, and four leaves at the end, many with sixteenth-century prayers and notes.

Contemporary French blind-stamped calf over wooden boards, metal clasp. Backstrip defective, corners worn.
