NINE SHOAMI SCHOOL TSUBA
MOMOYAMA/EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1600-1750)

The iron tsuba comprising: a six-lobed plate pierced and carved with a chrysanthemum on water, the edge in worn pattern of gold nunome, (Kyoto Shoami, circa 1700)--8.1cm. h., 5.5mm. th.; a round plate pierced with two half wheels and ferns, inlaid in gold and silver nunome (rubbed and worn), (Shoami school, circa 1650)--7.1cm. h., 4.5mm. th.; a round, pipe-rim plate with the web inlaid with gold wire scroll work, (Shoami school, circa 1600)--8.2cm. h., 3mm. th.; a round, pipe-rim plate web decoration of gold nunome sacred treasures (rim nunome worn), (Shoami school, circa 1600)--8.2cm. h., 3mm. th.; an oval plate carved in relief with a sage, inlay of shakudo plants and gold nunome details, signed Aizu ju Shoami, (circa 1650)--8.2cm. h., 5mm. th.; an oval plate carved as worn wood with a Chinese style landscape inlaid in shakudo, copper and gold nunome, (Aizu Shoami, circa 1650)--8.1cm. h., 7.8cm. w., 5.5mm. th.; a round plate inlaid in shakudo with a tea house and pine tree landscape, the rim cover raised in very heavy shakudo, signed Shoami saku (circa 1650)--7.5cm. h., 5mm. th.; a thick oval plate inlaid in high relief with brass and copper seashells, (Shonai Shoami, circa 1700)--7.5cm. h., 6.5mm. th.; a mokko plate with boar's eye corners, carved with pine, plum and bamboo, iron on iron inlay, and gold detials, (circa 1650)--7.2cm. h., 4mm. th.
