EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1650-1850)
The iron tsuba comprising: an oval plate carved in low relief with waves, dots of gold spray, (rim cover missing), signed Yamashiro Kuni ju Umetada Muneshige (circa 1700, he was the son of Umetada Muneyuki [circa 1650])--7.4cm. h., 7.1cm. w., 4.5mm. th.; a mokko plate with raised edge, pierced with a design of pine trees, tortoise shell carved rim, signed Umetada and kao, (Umetada Masahide, circa 1850)--8.8cm. h., 8.1cm. w., 3.5mm. th.; a round plate pierced with a large crescent moon, carved with clouds and plants (most of gold nunome is missing), signed, Umetada uji Tachibana Muneyoshi, (circa 1700)--7.9cm. h., 7.7cm. w., 4.75mm. th.; an eight-lobed plate carved with waves and inlaid with a brass rabbit and cricket, signed Nishijin ju Umetada saku, (circa 1650)--6.7cm. h., 6.3cm. w., 4.75mm. th.; an oval plate carved with ginko leaves and inlaid with a gilt and copper crab, signed Umetada, (circa 1750)--7.3cm. h., 4.5mm. th.; two Choshu tsuba, one round and one rounded-square, each pierced with peonies, signed Choshu Hagi ju Kawaju saku, (circa 1800)--7.5 and 6.7cm. h. respectively, 5.5mm. th. ea.; an oval plate carved with chrysanthemums and leaves, signed Choshu Hagi ju Masakatsu (Okada family 1723-1777)--7.2cm. h., 5mm. th.; an oval plate carved in relief with an eagle and a bear in a cave, signed Choshu Tomonori, (circa 1785, the eighth master of the Kawaju family)--7.2cm. h., 5mm. th.; an oval plate formed as a peony blossom, signed Choyo Mitsuyuki saku, (circa 1830, Okamoto family)--7.4cm. h., 4.5mm. th.
