EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700-1850), SIGNED

The iron tsuba comprising: an oval plate carved in the round (Sunagawa school) with cranes over pine trees, gold numone clouds, signed Chosu ju Bokutada (fl. circa 1875)--7.6cm. h., 7.2cm. w., 5mm. th.; an oval plate carved in low relief with a landscape of farmers at work, signed Bushu ju Masatsune (b. 1636, the second master of the Bushu Ito family; a later artist used this name circa 1750)--7.3cm. h., 7cm. w., 4mm. th.; a round plate pierced on the right with an eight-petal chrysanthemum, on the left with a gourd-shape hitsu-ana, good iron bones in rim, signed Tanshu ju Sadamasa--7.6cm. h., 7.1cm. w., 4.5mm. th.; a round plate carved with waves in high relief, stylized birds, the kozuka hitsu shaped as the matsukawabishi crest, the rim with many iron bones--7.7cm., 5mm th.; a round plate carved with six three-leaf groups, many fine iron bones, (this Kyo Shoami example was made circa 1650)--8.1cm. h., 4.5mm. th.; a round plate pierced with five oars, some slight iron bones in edge, (circa 1750)--7.1cm. h., 6.9cm. w., 5.75mm. th.; an oval plate with sukashi design of grass, stylized duck and crescent moon forming the kozuka hitsu-ana, the rim with
a few iron bones, (circa 1800)--6.9cm. h., 6.5cm. w., 5.5mm. th.; a round-cornered, trapezoidal plate pierced with a radiating flight of birds stretched wing to wing, the hitsu-ana formed as two ginger buds, the rim with many bold, running iron bones (a few rust areas)--7.1cm. h., 6.5cm. w., 6.75mm. th.
