SEVEN SOFT METAL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1700-1850)

The tsuba comprising: an oval, dark copper plate with gold accents carved and inlaid with a silver-capped Mt. Fuji and a dragon, (circa 1800)--6.6cm. h., 4.5mm. th.; an oval brass plate carved with a dragon with gold highlights, (circa 1750)--7.2cm. h., 5mm. th.; an oval brass plate in the form of a water dragon, (circa 1800), signed Toshimasa, (compare this example to the Toshimasa tsuba in Compton Part II, lot 203, sold in these rooms October 22, 1992)--7cm. h., 5.5mm th.; a mokko, stone-surface plate inlaid with copper crayfish, (circa 1800)--7.6cm. h., 4mm. th.; a bronze plate pierced with a willow tree and punt on the shore, (circa 1700)--7.4cm. h., 5mm. th.; an oval, chrysanthemum-petal-form hamidashi plate of mixed- metal with brass, (circa 1700)--6cm. h., 4mm. th.; a small shakudo, hamidashi plate with a silver rim cover, (mounted as a belt buckle) (7)
