Lot Essay

This high chest-of-drawers exhibits features that tie it to both the William and Mary and the Queen Anne periods. The use of thick-cut burled wood veneer outlined in crossbanding, the secret drawer in the upper case, and the central skirt pattern are reminiscent of William and Mary case furniture. The cabriole legs and absence of a strip nailed to the underside of the skirt are characteristics of Queen Anne high chests-of-drawers.
