Lot Essay

The palace at the right of the picture is Palazzo Corner della Regina. Another closely related watercolor, Monte di Pieta, was exhibited at the Royal Academy, London in the 1926 Sargent memorial exhibition.

This watercolor will be included in Richard Ormond's and Elaine Kilmurray's forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work.
