(8 3/16 x 5 x 1 9/16in.), dark green crushed levant morocco, rounded bevelled edges, covers with an outer border of a small roll tool within three gilt fillets, enclosing line borders broken and curled at the corners for thistle tool corner ornaments joined to a central shaped rectangular panel of gilt line, the upper cover set with an onlaid circular medallion of mauve morocco gilt lettered "RB" within a densely gold-tooled flower and leaf oval frame with mauve morocco onlays; spine in six compartments with five raised bands, gilt and gilt lettered, board edges with double gilt fillet, turn-ins gilt lettered with lines from "To a Mouse" and "Auld Lang Syne" within borders of gilt roll, doublures of brown morocco gilt, upper doublure set with AN OVAL PORTRAIT MINIATURE OF ROBERT BURNS (68 x 54mm., 2 5/8 x 2 1/8in.), in gilt tools and four jewels, free endpages of orange watered silk, g.e., stamp-signed on lower turn-in with S & S cipher and: "Bound for Chas. J. Sawyer Ltd. London", green morocco gilt folding box by Zaehnsdorf, lacks half-title; Second (First Edinburgh) Edition, mixed issue with misprint "Boxburgh" instead of "Roxburgh" in the list of subscribers and "skinking" in line 13 of p. 263 corrected, aquatint medallion portrait frontispiece of Burns by I. Beugo after Alexander Nasmyth. Egerer 2; Rothschild 556.
