(Outer margin of title cropped and repaired with loss of portion of the border; sidenote on A2 and headline on K4 shaved.) Early 19th-century calf gilt, edges gilt. Provenance: Sir Francis Freeling with bookplate (his sale 25 Nov.1836); Cardiff Castle bookplate.

FIRST AND ONLY EDITION. Dedication in verse to Alice, Countess of Derby; followed by commendatory verses by Michael Drayton and Nicholas Deeble and a couplet by Herbert of Cherbury. A series of eight sonnets follows the main poem. The author appears to have been acquainted with Shakespeare and other contemporary writers, whom he characterized in witty epigrams.
