Small 8° (135 x 90mm). Collation: A2 B-R8. Woodcut portrait of Wiclif on verso of title. 19th-century purple morocco gilt by Bedford, edges gilt. Provenance: Cardiff Castle bookplate.

This anonymous preface explaining Wyclif's Bible, which was completed in 1395, was probably written by John Purvey (1353-1428), who revised the Wycliffite translation of the Bible. An earlier edition of this text in 1540 was taken from another manuscript. STC 25588. One of two issues, this copy is the issue with the setting of 'Egipt' on K1 and 'all' on L1.
