The Austin-Healey sports car range is synonymous with a particular era of British sports car production and is similar to the Jaguar sports car range in many ways. Both companies built strong, reliable and affordable cars for the North American market, their strongest and safest market, and the cars evolved model by model over the years. The Healeys offered no frills, open-air motoring and today the cars are fondly enjoyed. The 100 series cars were successful and had either 4 or 6 cylinder motors, but it is the 3000 model that most people remember as the definitive Healey. The first 3000 designated car was introduced in the Spring of 1959 and had a six cylinder 2,912cc motor that produced 124bhp with a top speed of 115mph. Two versions were available, either a two-seater (BN7) or a 2+2 (BT7).
This BN7 model has been comprehensively and professionally restored to the highest of standards; virtually everything that could be done by way of restoration has been attended to. The chassis was stripped to bare metal and blasted before being re-sealed and painted, and the panelwork was either replated or newly replaced, while the interior was retrimmed with correct style Connolly leather faced seats, Wilton carpets, panel kit and new decals and stickers. The bodywork was then given a show-quality, polyurethane, two-stage repaint in Ice Blue. The car sits on 60-spoke upgraded chrome/stainless wheels with correct size Michelin XZX radial tires.
Mechanically the engine and transmission have been completely rebuilt including the starter, generator and so forth. Other new parts include newly rebuilt suspension, brakes, a fuel system (with a new aluminum gas tank), a new wiring system and a new stainless steel exhaust. The gearbox has also been rebuilt and re-sealed and the overdrive unit has been inspected. All the hardware is cadmium plated.
The Healey is offered with a BMIHT Certificate verifying that it was originally sold with this desirable color combination and that it is a matching numbers example. It is offered with all bills and a photographic record attesting to the restoration.
This is surely one of the finest restorations of a Healey. Just over 2,800 were originally made - this restored example is possibly better than the original, finished cars and we thoroughly recommend close inspection.
