FROM THE ESTATE OF THE LATE STAN ALAN SACKLEY
1979 FERRARI 308 GTS
Chassis No. 28273
Red with black and red leather interior
Engine: all aluminum V8, double overhead camshafts to each bank, four double choke Weber carburetors, 2,927cc., 205bhp at 7,700rpm; Gearbox: five-speed manual; Suspension: front and rear independent with upper and lower wishbones; Brakes: disc all round. Left hand drive.
The 308 was the first in a successful series of mid-mounted, V8 engined Ferrari road cars with sparkling performance and phenomenal road holding. It was aimed at the market in which the Porsche 911 had such a strong foothold.
The first 308s, introduced in 1976, were in the GTB (berlinetta) version, of which the first 200 produced were made with fiberglass bodywork. Within two years a change to steel bodywork had been made and a GTS (spyder) version was added. The 308 was a success; the exceptionally pretty Pininfarina design and the transversely mounted eight cylinder engine gave the car instant appeal. Actor Mr. Tom Selleck drove one in the hit TV series Magnum P.I.
Delivered new to a North Hollywood construction company in August 1979, this is one such GTS model that the late Mr. Stan Sackley purchased as a second hand car in June 1999 to add to his collection. At the time the Ferrari was red with cream leather interior and Mr. Sackley decided to re-dye the interior to be more to his taste. Not overly satisfied with the result, the interior was then retrimmed properly last year at a cost of $1,600 with new black and red leather trim more in keeping with Mr. Sackley's vision. At the same time the car was mechanically inspected and anything requiring attention was seen to. The attention to detail reflects Mr. Sackley's high standards and a file of notes, invoices and correspondence is offered with the car, reflecting every cent spent on it during its present ownership. The mileage showing now is just over 55,600. The bodywork appears straight and the paintwork is well above average, with a couple of smaller areas of corrosion beginning to appear by the nearside C pillar. The lift-out roof is in excellent condition and the interior is in equally good, presentable order. Photographs on file illustrate the extent of the retrim and also include work to the door panels and floors. Air conditioning is fitted and the car has an alarm system and telephone handset. About $7,500 was spent on the car during Mr. Sackley's ownership.
It is offered with an original owner's manual in its correct Ferrari wallet, the aforementioned file of papers and receipts and a jack but no tool roll.
