A GERMAN FLINTLOCK SPORTING RIFLE fitted with a fine Turkish four-stage twist barrel cut with ten grooves and chiselled in low relief with panels of arabesques and picked out in silver and gold, flared muzzle inlaid with silver and gold and fitted with silver fore-sight, signed bevelled lock with stepped tail (top jaw associated, jaw screw incomplete), moulded walnut full stock (butt cracked) carved with a grotesque mask behind the barrel tang and with foliage on the cheek-piece, iron mounts including lightly engraved side-plate, faceted ramrod-pipes, and horn fore-end cap (ramrod missing, surface rust), by Jacob Bergstraesser of Fürstenau, circa 1740, the barrel late 17th Century
