An important portrait of Tsarina Catherine the Great of Russia, her white powdered curly hair adorned with a jewel-set gold tiara, a laurel wreath and a long white veil, wearing a white muslin dress tied with a mauve silk waist-sash, a long jewelled pearl necklace with pendant suspended from her neck, a red cloak embroidered in gold with Russian double eagles draped over her shoulders -- 89 mm diam., gilt-metal frame with beaded border.
