A young boy with short fair hair, wearing a blue costume with broad lace-edged white collar, a white sash knotted at his waist, decorated with the breast-star of an order; oval -- 68 mm high, gilt-metal frame, the glazed reverse with a curl of brown hair on a silk ground.

An identical version is illustrated in Karen Schaffers-Bodenhausen and Marieke Tiethoff-Spliethoff, The Portrait Miniatures in the Collections of the House of Nassau-Orange, Zwolle, 1993, p. 241, nr 253 (with erroneous identifications of the sitter as the King of Rome and of the Order as the Austrian Order of Maria-Theresia).
