SPANISH SCHOOL, circa 1828/1830

A pair of miniature depicting The Infante Don Francisco de Paula, Duke of Cadiz and his wife Luisa-Carlota, she wearing earrings and a pink dress with ruffled white lace collar, her brown hair tied in tight rolls, he with forward-combed brown hair, sideburns and moustache, wearing a blue uniform with silver-braided border, decorated with the jewel of the Order of the Golden Fleece, the sash and breast-star of the Royal Spanish Order of Charles III and other breast-stars; both oval -- each 44 mm high, cast gilt-metal mounts decorated with stars. Lot Essay

The Infante Don Francisco de Paula (1794-1865), Duke of Cadiz, was the youngest son of Charles IV, King of Spain, and his wife Queen Maria-Luisa (see lot 371). A brother of King Ferdinand VII (see lot 369), he married his niece Princess Luisa Carlota of Bourbon-Naples (1804-1844), daughter of Francis I, King of the Two-Sicilies and his second wife Maria-Isabella, Infanta of Spain (see lot 345).
