A GERMAN SILVER-GILT-LINED ENAMEL SNUFF-BOX WITH A MINIATURE INSIDE

Cartouche-shaped box, the cover painted with a commedia dell'arte scene embellished with raised gilt rocaille ornaments, the sides enamelled with cartouches depicting landscapes in purple camaïeu within raised gilt scrolls, the base painted with a lady on horseback and a soldier in orange camaïeu, the inside of the cover set with a glazed gouache and watercolour on parchment miniature finely painted with a gentleman playing a hurdy-gurdy seated next to a lady playing a triangle accompanied by another lady, with a herm in a landscape; the reeded gilt-metal mounts with slightly raised thumbpiece -- 64 mm wide, the enamel slightly chipped.
