Rectangular gold box, the cover, sides and base chased and engraved with cartouches on sun-burst motifs surrounded by reeded scrolls and floral swags in four-coloured gold, the cover and front wall decorated with pastoral scenes, the base, two side and rear walls with fabrics -- 82 mm wide.

Lot Essay

Jean George (active 1752-1765) was one of the most distinguished Parisian goldsmiths of the 18th Century, supplying gold boxes for the Menus Plaisirs du Roi between 1755 and 1761.
