King Vittorio-Amadeo III of Sardinia, his right hand holding a field marshal's bâton, with curly powdered short wig and black solitaire, wearing a silver-braided scarlet uniform with moss-green collar and sleeves, a silver-figured green waistcoat and a gold sash, frilled lace cuffs and a matching jabot, decorated with the jewel and the breast-star of the Order of the Most Sacred Annunciation, a silver-edged black tricorn hat set with feathers and a bow under his left arm; on vellum -- 74 mm diam., bearing initials "J.E.L.", gilt-metal frame.

This well-painted miniature is inspired by Domenico Duprà's oil painting at Stupinigi castle near Turin.
Vittorio-Amadeo III of Savoy (1726-1796), King of Sardinia 1773-1796, married Maria-Antonieta of Spain in 1750. Among their nine children were the Countess of Artois (see lot 169) and King Vittorio Emanuele I of Sardinia (see lot 236).
