Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoy, King of Sardinia, with powdered hair, wearing a silver-braided dark uniform with scarlet collar and silver epaulets, decorated with the breast-star and the jewel of the Order of the Most Sacred Annunciation of Savoy, the breast-star and jewel of the Order of Saint Maurice and Saint Lazarus, the sash and breast-star of the Royal Military Order of Savoy and another order; olive-green drapery and cloudy sky background; oval -- 39 mm high, gold frame.

Lot Essay

Vittorio Emanuele I (1759-1824), son of King Vittorio Amadeo III of Sardinia (see lots 152 and 163), acceeded after the abdication of his elder brother Carlo Emanuele IV in 1802 and abdicated himself in 1821, in favour of his younger brother Carlo Felice. He was married to Maria-Teresa, Archduchess of Austria-Este (see lot 238).
