Chancery 4to, 208 x 153mm. (8 3/16 x 6in.), contemporary limp vellum, spine ink-lettered, yapp edges, small piece lost from head of spine, upper cover torn at joint, lacks ties, first and last three leaves wormed, catching three letters and touching a rule border on the title-page, first gathering slightly dampstained at top.

Second edition, the first in German, translated by Michael Krautwadel, woodcut of a banquet on title-page, large woodcut portrait of the author on A4v, 4 large pictorial woodcuts (half-page and slightly smaller); the cuts by Burgkmaier and others, ornamental woodcut initials, with the final blank leaf. VD 16 records two issues: one of 20 February (L2169) and the present, dated 11 May, which is rarer.

The author was the personal physician of the Emperor Charles V. The work was first published in Spanish in 1530.
